A visit to one of the world's last steel engravers

Prantl Munich

So I had to pause my summer vacation for one day the other week in order to meet with clients and hand in a paper for university. And while I was in Munich I also visited one of my favorite shops in the city: Prantl. Being one of the very last places on earth where one can still order steel engraved stationery and having served clients such as Thomas Mann, Prantl always was and still is the institution to have one's business cards made at. Steel engraving is a traditional printing technique which involves a custom-made steel cliché for every client. There are very few craftsmen left worldwide who are still able to make these clichés by hand, and some of the best work at Prantl.

Having had my own cards made at Prantl, I can heartily recommend you visit them when you are in Munich. Consider an order there, it will be worth the money. Oh, and by the way: Prantl also has a very handsome collection of fine leather goods, all made in their own workshop.
